Frequently asked questions
What to know about a second Yusee number: how it works, what it costs, and what it does not do.
The service in short
What exactly is Yusee?
Yusee is an app that adds a second Canadian phone number to the phone you already own. That number takes calls, sends texts and has its own voicemail, while your usual number keeps working as before.
How is this different from a second phone or a second SIM?
There is no extra device to carry, no plan to take out with another carrier, and no SIM card to insert. A dual-SIM phone needs a compatible device and a real contract with a second provider; Yusee only needs the app.
Is my Yusee number a real phone number?
Yes. It is a ten-digit Canadian number assigned by our telecommunications carrier. Anyone can dial it from any phone, with no app and no account.
Does Yusee replace my mobile plan?
No, and this matters. Yusee is added to your existing line, which stays necessary — not least for emergency calls. If you cancel your mobile plan, Yusee will not stand in for it.
Your number
Can I choose my area code?
Yes. You pick the area code where the people you want to reach are: 514 or 438 for Montreal, 418 for Quebec City, 450 for the South Shore, 416 or 647 for Toronto, 604 for Vancouver, among others. You do not have to live there.
Can I move my current number to Yusee?
No. Your Yusee number is assigned by our carrier and is added to your line. It also cannot be ported to another provider later: it is reserved for you while your subscription is active, but you do not own it.
What happens to my number if I cancel?
It stays reserved for you for seven days after cancellation. After that it returns to the carrier and cannot be reassigned to you.
Can I have more than one number?
Yes, from the Business plan, which includes three numbers. That is useful for separating two activities, or for keeping a presence in two cities with two different area codes, all in the same app.
Calls, texts and emergencies
Can I dial 911 from Yusee?
Yes, but the call does not go out through your Yusee number. It is handed to your phone, which places it over your carrier line — the only one that passes your location to the dispatch centre.
This is why an active mobile plan remains essential on your device. Without one, no emergency call can go through. It is a limit of the service, not a fault.
Do Yusee calls use the minutes in my mobile plan?
No. Calls travel over the internet and use data, not the minutes in your mobile plan. On Wi-Fi they use nothing at all.
Does the person I call see my real number?
Never. Your Yusee number is what shows, and there is no way to get from one to the other.
Can I send texts?
Yes, from your Yusee number. Texts are billed on usage on every plan and appear on the following month's invoice.
Account and device
How do I sign in?
With a six-digit code sent to your email address. There is no password to invent and none to forget. Just keep access to that inbox: it is what protects your account.
Which devices does the app run on?
Android 8 and later. The iPhone and iPad version will follow. The app is in preparation: the Download page shows where we stand.
What happens when I change phones?
You reinstall the app, sign in with the same email, and find your number and your history waiting. The number lives in your account, not in the device.
Is there an age requirement?
You must be at least thirteen to open an account, and eighteen to take out a paid subscription.
Price and cancellation
What does it cost?
Plans start at CA$14.90 per month for one number and one user, and go up to CA$99 per month for three numbers and five users. Prices are in Canadian dollars, taxes extra. See the plans in detail.
Is there a commitment?
No. The subscription is monthly and renews automatically until you stop it. No annual commitment is required.
How do I cancel?
From the app, or by writing to us. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the month you have already paid for: you keep the service until then and nothing further is charged. A month already started is not refunded, except where the law requires it or where the service failed through our fault.
Does deleting my account cancel the subscription?
No, and this trips people up. They are two separate steps: cancel first, then delete the account. The steps are on the Delete your account page.
Privacy
Why use a second number?
Because a phone number has become a piece of identity: it authenticates you at the bank, it follows you through moves and jobs, and every form you write it on puts it into lasting circulation. A second number absorbs the classified ads, the dating apps and the sign-ups, while the real one stays for the people close to you.
Does Yusee make my calls anonymous?
No. Your Yusee number is a real Canadian number tied to your account. It keeps your personal number out of circulation; it does not erase your identity and must not be used to hide unlawful conduct.
What do you do with my information?
The details are in our privacy policy, which forms part of the terms of use.
